How does Invisalign® treatment work?

You can get a brand-new smile with these six easy steps. The Invisalign® system is a doctor-directed treatment and is not sold directly to patients.

Step 2

We will create a 3D treatment plan based on your records and prescription.

Step 3

A series of custom-made aligners are created with advanced 3D printing technology, and will be shipped to our clinic from their manufacturing unit. We will then contact you for your first aligner-fitting appointment.

Step 4

You will be fitted with your aligners and given 3-4 sets to take home.

Step 5

At check-ups every 6-8 weeks, we will give you the next 3-4 aligners in the series.

Benefits of Invisalign®

1. More Comfortable

Removable aligners provide more comfort than traditional braces. Traditional metal brackets dig into your lips and cheeks. The result can be painful sores. You can apply wax to the outside of your brackets, but the wax usually falls off quickly. Invisalign removable aligners have smooth edges and are made of high-quality resin, so you don’t have to worry about metal digging into your gums.

Invisible aligners also straighten your teeth more precisely due to their custom fit. While wearing your aligners throughout your treatment sequence, your teeth will gradually reposition horizontally, vertically, and rotationally.

2. Fix Dental Problems

Besides causing you to feel self-conscious about your smile, crooked teeth can cause issues like food trapping, decay, tooth erosion and lip incompetency. Overbite and underbite can also be corrected with invisible aligners. An improper bite can cause chewing difficulties, jaw aches, and speech difficulties. Correcting your bite can reduce your risk of cavities, gum disease, and tooth loss.

Additionally, crowded or widely spaced teeth are more likely to develop gum disease since the gums can’t fit around them. A removable aligner can fix gum inflammation, tooth sensitivity and even tooth chipping when your teeth are well aligned.

3. Take better care of your teeth

Removable aligners offer greater convenience than traditional braces, since they can be removed for better dental hygiene. The first step to a healthy mouth is to clean it, and the goal is to make sure your teeth are as healthy as possible at the end of the process. A traditional brace also tends to trap food and plaque inside its brackets, making it difficult to clean. Tooth decay and gum disease are possible outcomes of poor oral hygiene.

The Invisalign aligners can be removed and your normal dental routine can continue. Brushing or flossing your teeth doesn’t require any special equipment. Brush the inside of your aligner to ensure no food or bacteria accumulates.

4. Enhances Self-confidence

The first thing others notice about your smile is your teeth. Having a good smile and healthy teeth makes you feel more confident about yourself. Additionally, a straighter smile is associated with a better sense of self-esteem among teenagers and young adults.

Invisible aligners are made of clear resin and perfectly fit your teeth. Therefore, they are virtually invisible, so most people won’t know you’re straightening your teeth. Additionally, traditional braces increase teenagers’ vulnerability to bullying and harassment. By wearing invisible aligners, they can improve their dental health and confidence, and protect themselves from teasing and bullying.

5. Fewer Dental Visits

In order to ensure that your braces are adjusted correctly, you must visit the orthodontist frequently. These visits may involve the dentist removing and replacing brackets. There can also be changes to wire sizes, tightening of certain brackets, and even the extension of wires between brackets.

Invisible aligners require fewer dental appointments with your Invisalign Dentist, and their short and less intrusive design allows you to avoid them. A visit will be required between six to eight weeks and you’ll be changing aligners every week in between these appointments. Aligners don’t require any additional dental work because they’re already designed and created.

6. Eat and Drink What You Like

With Invisalign, you can eat and drink whatever you like. With traditional braces, there is a risk of the wires snapping or the brackets bending if you eat food that is sticky, hard and crunchy. Therefore, caramel, gum, nuts, cookies, popcorn, ice, corn on the cob, carrots and apples are not allowed.

Best thing about removable aligners is that they don’t interfere with your regular diet. It is possible to develop plaque and bacteria inside the aligners if food particles get caught inside. Upon removing them, you should properly place them in their travel containers to avoid contamination or loss. Furthermore, you may want to brush your teeth or rinse your mouth with water after you’ve finished eating before putting your aligners back in. As a result, you will be able to avoid food particles getting stuck between your teeth and aligner.

7. Less Time To Treat

Most traditional braces take 16 to 18 months to work. Some people may need up to two years to complete the process. It’s a long time to wait for straight teeth. Compared to removable aligners, traditional braces are less precise.

Depending on your teeth crowding level, it takes only from a year to year and a half to complete treatment which is a great advantage. Because of their invisible design, others won’t even notice them. However, it may take you longer to achieve your goals if your aligners are not worn correctly or as often as possible.

Invisalign Clear Aligners - FAQ

1. Is there an age limit for Invisalign?

Invisalign can be used by anyone! Many patients in their 40s, 50s, and even 60s successfully complete an Invisalign treatment. A full-grown adult’s Invisalign treatment may take longer than that of a child or teen’s, but an adult can have serious dental issues corrected with Invisalign without much difficulty.

Because Invisalign aligners are more convenient and do not affect one’s appearance, most adults prefer them. Patients who are older are generally more motivated to see results from Invisalign than those who are younger. In order to achieve a perfect smile, they are willing to follow their prescribed treatment and wear their aligners as long as it takes.

2. Can only an orthodontist provide Invisalign treatment?

Not all orthodontists are Invisalign-trained doctors as they must complete specialised training and get registered as an Invisalign-trained doctor. However, many general dentists who have special interest in orthodontics are Invisalign Certified and can provide all ranges of orthodontic treatments.

3. How is Invisalign treatment different than other teeth straightening options?

Invisalign treatment is the most advanced clear aligner system in the world, backed by more than two decades of innovation. Unlike braces, Invisalign clear aligners are removable and virtually invisible. There are no wires and brackets, so you don’t need to change the way you brush and floss. and, you can continue to eat all your favourite foods.

4. Are there any restrictions on what I can eat while in treatment?

No, there are no restrictions! Invisalign clear aligners are removable, so there are no food restrictions at all (hello popcorn!). with traditional wires and brackets, there’s a long list of foods you unfortunately can’t enjoy because they can damage or get stuck in your braces.

5. How often do I have to Check-up?

We recommend periodic check-ups in order to ensure teeth are moving normally. These appointments are less frequent than if you were wearing metal braces because the aligners are made at the beginning of the process. We see patients less frequently as Invisalign® dentists, since our check-ups are only to make sure everything is working properly. This service is available to patients across Forest Hill and neighbouring areas such as Glen Waverley, Mount Waverley, Vermont, Vermont South, Box Hill, Box Hill North, Box Hill South, Blackburn, Blackburn North, Blackburn South, Burwood, Burwood East, Nunawading, Mitcham, Mont Albert, Mont Albert North and Surrey Hills.

6. What is the Treatment Time?

It takes about six to twelve months to complete the procedure. Depending on your situation, our team can recommend how long you should wear them. Overall, the treatment may take less time than metal braces. It’s partly because you don’t have to schedule appointments in order to keep your teeth moving. All you have to do is replace your aligner.

7. Where can I find an Invisalign dentist?

Invisalign® is not offered by every dentist. In order to offer it to patients, special training is required. To find out if the procedure is right for you, contact Dr. Dinesh at our dental surgery by calling (03) 9878 3233 or book online.
